Bio
I'm Gavin Leeper, and I'm a game composer primarily inspired by the single player adventure games like the Zelda series, and JRPGs.
I've lived in Japan, and dedicated years of study to contemporary Japanese composers like Koji Kondo, Joe Hisaishi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Yoko Kanno. I teach about the music theory that informs some of this genre on YouTube, and some consider me an expert on the anime and Japanese VGM sound. I currently specialize in orchestral music, though I have also experience with jazz, math rock, and electronic music.
Fantasy, spirituality, and envisioning more healed futures are core to who I am, and I'm looking to work on games that tell stories about the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.
My Favorite Games for Music:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
I am Setsuna
Final Fantasy XIII

Rotomagnet
<In Development>
Rotomagnet is a single player adventure game inspired by Japanese games like Danball Senki W.

I was commissioned by a Montreal-based developer to make Town and Battle themes for the game. In order to get a proper upbeat electronic musical style for the battle sequence, I looped in my friend Cakasaurus to help with production.
(La Légende de L'île aux Tika)
<In Development>
An enviro-spiritual pirate adventure in which you acquire the ability to see cute monsters called Tika more and more as you help the earth.

I was commissioned by an indie game studio in Reunion Island to make the main theme for the game, for which I decided to mix inspirations from One Piece and Princess Mononoke.
Eldraith
<In Development>
Eldraith is an action RPG that brings the gameplay of Elden Ring to a world with lore inspired by Tolkien’s The Lord of The Rings.

Eldraith is a solo-dev project whose developer is commissioning me to write area music.
Made for GMTK Game Jam 2022.
A game similar to Hades in which each time you enter a new room, you roll dice to randomly choose your weapons and abilities.

Larger team with 4 devs, 2 artists, 2 composers, and 2 other audio programmers for implementation and sound design. I wrote 3 songs, one intended for each of the 3 rooms
It’s Go Fish, but you actually fish! Made for GMTK Game Jam 2022.

Small team with 2 devs, an artist, and myself. I composed the menu and gameplay music.
Original piece. The theme for the Akigami village, the autumnal start town for our heroine's grand adventure.
Original piece. Our heroine goes out into the snowy mystical night to find her lost friend.
Original piece. As our heroine travels north, she has a serene encounter with some geese along the river.
Original piece. Inspired by the Zelda: Link's Awakening remake, I've been experimenting with how to still get some of the "epic" sounds we want with smaller ensembles. This is a quick battle theme I wrote for string quartet.
Original piece. As part of a team participating in OST Composing Jam #3, I wrote this theme for the worm character given to us in the game's concept art. It uses a small wind ensemble like the Link's Awakening remake, and takes some inspiration from Kaepora Gaebora's theme.
Reorchestration. I arranged Endless Crusade from "I Am Setuna" for orchestra in a contemporary Chinese cinematic style. My main influences included Kung Fu Panda, and The Legend of Korra.
